Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 bad performance

Recommended Posts

HI. I have a Mac Pro 2,1 running a PC-version Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 in the #1 PCI slot (x16) which displays a very bad performance. First test, score was 200, second 250, third 132... now it's 179. Latest drivers are installed. Ist it an issue with the old PCIe bus? No need to tell me my Mac is old btw. I knows ;)

Edit: got both cables attached to the mainboard, btw.

I've heard a few people that have subpar performance with after market cards in Mac Pros. I suspect it's a combination of the lower bus bandwidth and not as much driver optimization as Windows.

Stangely, performance is twice as good under OS X Lion from 2012 with CUDA 5.5.47 and some older driver version than under El Capitan from 2016 with the latest CUDA and drivers. Maybe CUDA itself is the culprit as it somehow shares the card's computing power with the machine?
