Slow GPU score with a gtx 980

Recommended Posts

I Have an older motherboard with an X58 chip set, so I know my PCI-E is a slight bottleneck for the GTX 980, But I don't think the drop off would be this great. When I see other scores with GTX 980's the score is much higher.

Only major change recently is the Xeon processor is new

Any ideas on why it is so bad?

The PCIe 2.0 on your board isn't ideal, but it shouldn't make as big of a difference as you're seeing, at least on the Novabench test.

There must be another problem. As a first step, I would take a look at the tools that probably came with your GPU by the manufacturer (MSi, ASUS, etc), or GPU-z. Check that your clock rate and power usage are where they should be.
