  1. More research on the benchmarks shows that the gating factor limiting speed on these two systems are the slow mechanical HDs. Switching to a SSD would improve the score. Also of interest is apparently Intel has several Intel HD Graphics on-chip graphics controllers, and it appears the fastest ones are on the fastest chips, that is, the i7 chip would have a faster Intel HD Graphics controller than a Core2 Duo. In Frames Per Second, the fastest commonly available Intel HD Graphics controller appears to be the Intel HD Graphics 4000, with about 173 FPS, which puts it in the upper one-third of all GPUs, but still worse performance than a decent external graphics card, or about the same performance as a cheap graphics card like my Radeon 4600. Keeping on topic, what is needed are some graphics to show this in pictures.
  2. Great site, love it. I found what others are posting from a keyword search, which is good, but if there is a histogram for various families of chips and 'common' configurations it would be nice. Tough to group what is 'common' however, since the overclockers and the custom PCs will skew the averages. Below are my numbers for two 'generic' out of the box Core2 Duo and i5-2400 machines, with the only modification is that I added a cheap graphics card to the i5. I am "happy" with my performance even though these machines are 'below average' and fall in roughly the bottom 33% percentile. This is because I am guessing the overclockers and custom PCs skew the results posted here. Also switching from a HDD to a SSD would boost my score I'm sure, as well as adding RAM and going to a 64-bit OS.
